Knowledge based approach

Grafting is a complicated process where wax plays an important role. We work closely with universities and other research institutions to understand the interactions between wax and plants. Results show that correct wax technology can contribute to a significant increase in yield.

Key benefits

Purpose made products

The Proagriwax product range is tailor-made for each step in the grafting process. Our focus has been to develop wax products for different methods and climate conditions.

Carefully selected ingredients

We always keep the environment in mind and select ingredients that will biodegrade and not cause any negative consequences for the plants or agricultural soil.

icon consistency.png

Consistent quality

Each Proagriwax product has well defined physical and chemical properties. Our customers can rely on the same wax performance year after year.

Profitable investment

Appropriate wax technology contributes to increased plant yield. Investing in wax technology is already profitable at a marginal yield increase of 0.5%.

Personal support

Our aim is to be available to give advice regarding use of our products. In some markets we work together with local partners and representatives that are experienced in grafting technology.

Long term commitment

Norsk Wax has been developing and supplying wax to agriculture since 1992. Together with our customers we have developed our products over a period of almost 30 years.

 Product line

The product line consists of wax products suitable for the various stages in the grafting process. All products are categorized according to physical properties such as heat tolerance, hardness and flexibility. Some product names function as a guideline for the typical climate for use. Please contact us for finding the right wax for your needs.

 Wax properties explained

icon temperature.png

Heat tolerance

Wax is a material that gradually melts with increasing temperature. At higher field temperatures a part of the wax will be melted. These melted parts can move into the plant and damage the tissue. This conflict between wax, plant and temperature can be reduced by correct wax technology. We call this to increase the heat tolerance of the wax.

icon hardness.png

Hardness

In a wax with good heat tolerance the structural body of the wax is maintained at high field temperatures and the feeling of the wax is harder. For production of grapevine plants the hardness at typical field temperatures is the most important. Norsk Wax includes the hardness measure at 25°C and 43°C for all products in the Certificate of Analysis.

icon plasticity.png

Plasticity

Plasticity is important in order to allow the wax to follow the growth of the plant. In addition, a degree of plasticity is necessary to avoid cracking of the wax used in cold storage, or regions with high day/night temperature fluctuations. These properties are achieved in the Proagriwax by using special/carefully selected microcrystalline waxes and polymers.

Colour

Waxes used in grafting are often are coloured red, green or in other colours for identification or commercial purposes. The colour of the wax will influence the temperature in the plant tissue when exposed to sunlight. By using a bright white pigment in the wax the plant temperature can be reduced, potentially helping to increase plant growth in very warm fields.

“In the early 1990s there was a significant increase in bench grafting using wax, without the necessary knowledge of what wax is and how it influences the plant. We decided to make a knowledge based and systemized product range for grafting named Proagriwax”
