The production efficiency for grapevine plants depend on several factors. Typical variables are the quality of the biological material used, climate, biotope and the technology of the farmer. However, the wax technology also has a strong influence on the success rate. Norsk Wax has studied the influence of wax on plants for several years in order to establish the effects of different wax formulations. The results show that wax can have a strong influence on the development of the plant. The relationship between the wax quality and the climate plays a particularly important role. The softness of the wax varies with the wax formulation and the temperature in the agricultural field. It is hard at low temperature and soft at high temperature. This increase in softness at high temperatures is due to the melting of some wax molecules. The melted wax molecules can migrate into the plant and destroy the living plant tissue. A main focus during the development of the Proagriwax products has been to reduce the probability of such damages to the plant by careful selection of raw materials and optimal formulations.
One important quality parameter is the flexibility of the wax product at different temperatures. Wax used in cold storage must have flexibility at low temperature in order to stay on the plant during handling. The same wax must also have the correct physical properties at the ¬†elevated temperatures found in agricultural fields.
